The Role

We are currently seeking an ambitious and talented Junior Associate, looking for a challenging and rewarding new role. Interested applicants should be able to demonstrate exemplary technical skills and relish the opportunity to join a truly unique and successful global real estate team.

The role will involve:

  • Working on large, scale, complex international Real Estate matters
  • Advising and supporting leading multi-national corporates with their occupational requirements
  • Working closely with the Gulf Real Estate team to assist with transactions across the region
  • Working closely with the Dubai office Banking team to support real estate finance transactions
  • Working closely with the Dubai office Corporate team in the coordination and implementation of multi-jurisdictional mergers and acquisitions
  • Developing relationships with clients, including understanding clients’ businesses, economic drivers, markets, and sectors in order to deliver relevant and commercial advice and contribute to growing the relationship and winning further work.
  • Engaging in business development activities, and being active in the promotion of the firm and seeking opportunities for new work.

  • Associates are given regular and direct contact with clients, with a culture based on associates being given the level of responsibility that they are ready for, rather than a PQE based method of work allocation.

Paralegal – Dispute Resolution – Litigation

The Role

Our Dispute Resolution practice is seeking two (2) bilingual Paralegals to join the team. It is essential that the successful applicants have gained commercial paralegal experience from a professional services environment, ideally within a law firm. This role will include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Conducting legal research for judicial precedents, laws and regulations
  • Translating and summarizing the hearings and judgments into English and preparing them in the set reply format to be sent to the clients within one working day
  • Preparing legal proposals, retainer agreements and POAs
  • Following up with the lawyers on pending emails, correspondences in addition to preparing the exhibits, bundles, attending meetings, taking meeting minutes/notes, following up with clients to make sure they get their response on time with a professional/accurate format
  • Attending meetings with the clients and write the meeting minutes
  • Following up with court clerks regarding client’s queries and executions
  • Drafting legal memos, notices and pleadings
  • Liaising with governmental authorities where relevant
  • Coordinating with the accounts to send the invoices and any outstanding payments to clients and follow up on their financial status
  • Preparing weekly reports on legal cases, departmental statistics and management information
  • Summarizing legal documents and working on standard litigation files with supervising attorney
  • Assisting legal consultants in the preparation of their advices and correspondences
  • Performing searches with courts and government authorities
  • Drafting and checking legal forms/contracts and submissions for accuracy and completion
  • Preparing correspondences to and directly liaising with clients, government departments, courts etc.

Key Skills and Experience Required

Knowledge Lawyer for the Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Group

Role Location

Any Baker McKenzie Office or Center in EMEA

Role Purpose

To manage and execute legal content projects, training and knowledge initiatives for the Group within the context of the Firm’s knowledge strategy

Main Responsibilities

To ensure that Knowledge support, content and projects meets the needs of the Group and the Firm’s Client & Market and Knowledge strategies. To make first-class knowledge easily available to lawyers, increasing the quality, consistency and/or cost-effectiveness of the advice that Baker McKenzie gives its clients, including:

Knowledge and Expertise

Knowledge support, client facing focus:

  • Provide legal input into client-facing initiatives, including client training and legal content for proposals and other business development resources.  Identify Group hot topics, and write, commission and deliver content such as alerts, thought leadership reports and talking points. Support the tailoring of Firm-wide Service Lines to meet the needs of the Group’s clients. Curate the TMT module on InsightPlus
  • Educate self about PG/IGs/Group’s Industry Key Clients (“IKCs”)
  • Collaborate closely with the Group’s BDMC team to access client intelligence, ensure client-centricity of Knowledge deliverables and contribute actively to client trainings, conferences, round-tables and similar events
  • Policy initiatives and capacity building. Participate in and respond to policy consultations and regulatory developments

Knowledge support, internal focus:

  • Current awareness and commercial/industry knowhow. Keep abreast and provide regular updates on key trends and developments impacting the Group. Apply an understanding of IKC industries and businesses to all activity. Work with other PGs and IGs to provide the most holistic legal, commercial and industry knowhow possible. Leverage industry periodicals and media to enhance industry knowledge. Involve self with industry bodies, including by coordinating attendance at meetings and calls and by joining working groups and subcommittees
  • Lawyer requests. Respond to ad hoc enquiries from lawyers with on-point, thorough and timely answers. Develop a reputation as a go-to expert
  • Knowhow development and content management. Work with PG and Service Line Knowledge Lawyers to ensure a core foundation of IG knowledge is in place for the Firm’s key markets and jurisdictions including precedents (automated where relevant) and samples, ensuring this is leveraged where possible. Ensure that knowhow best practices are being followed throughout the Group and contribute to developing them. Ensure that knowhow is collected, searchable and readily and easily accessible by fee earners
  • Training. Identify the Group’s training needs linked to Group and Firm strategy. Meet training needs by delivering, participating in and promoting training. Leverage firm resources and processes to produce training materials and courses efficiently and of the highest possible quality

  • Systems. Support and drive adoption of Knowledge systems. Take ownership of delivery. Schedule one-on-one meetings and presentations to promote Knowledge systems

About The Candidate

Technical skills, qualifications and experience

  • Law degree
  • Current license to practice law (or eligibility for one)
  • Substantial experience as a practicing lawyer with direct involvement in the Technology, Media & Telecommunications area and industries
  • Expertise in drafting legal documents (precedents) in English
  • Ability to assist in running Technology, Media & Telecommunications-related client events
  • Excellent English language skills (verbal and written) and the confidence to communicate in a multi-cultural, multi-level environment
  • Experience of working directly with senior counterparts on strategy and execution
  • Excellent time management and organizing skills; ability to prioritise and manage time to meet deadlines
  • Strong word processing and spreadsheet skills
  • Experience in or willingness to learn document automation and other legal tech
